Shaker Museum Alfred, Maine - Saturday

Alfred, Maine was home to the first Shaker Village in Maine, it is no longer in operation, but is run as a museum by a very nice group of volunteers. The Shakers from this village moved to the village at Sabbathday Lake Maine where there are still 2 shakers living there.

The Shakers at Alfred made fine spinning wheels

The Shakers were celibate so many new members were brought to the village as orphans.

Alfred is a really nice town and has 48 houses on the National Historic Register - to learn more: http://www.nps.gov/nr/travel/shaker/alf.htm
